Harmless High or Dangerous Drug?
"Communication between parents and kids is the most effective prevention tool when it comes to protecting your teen from abusing medications. Kids who report learning ‘a lot’ about the dangers of drugs at home are up to 50 percent less likely to use illicit drugs."
Steve Pasierb, Partnership for a Drug-Free America

Youth Leadership Institute 2009
Summer Learning Opportunity for Students

The World Affairs Council is pleased to announce that applications are now available for our second annual summer institute for high school students. To be eligible, students must currently be in grade 8, 9, or 10, and must be able to find their own transportation to and from the UW campus for each of the five days. There is no cost to the student.

This is a fantastic opportunity to learn about world issues and develop leadership skills.  Please help us spread the word among teachers, parents, and students.

The Global Youth Leadership Institute is funded in part by the Institute for National Security Education and Research, at the UW, and WAC members.

  June 2009 edition

Surprise someone with a front yard full of bright, Pink Flamingos! For a donation, you can have a flock of flamingos migrate to just about any residential front lawn. When you order Flocking, members of the Flamingo Flocking crew, the "Flockers", will deliver approximately 15 birds to unsuspecting yards. Imagine the priceless look on someone's face when they discover the brilliant colored flamingos taking sanctuary at their home! The flamingo flocking recipient will be left with an explanation, care instructions, and the number to the Flamingo Rescue Hotline. The Flockers will remove the birds within 48 hours.  Order forms will be in the main office.
